Barn Assistant
Summary:
NCEFT is looking for a Barn Assistant to support the Barn Manager, Horse Handlers and therapy horses for sessions at NCEFT. Hours are up to 32- 40 hours/week. Position reports to the Barn Manager. This is a non-exempt position with benefits.
Direct Responsibilities:
- Prepare therapy horses for sessions – grooming, tacking/untacking and bringing horses to/from the arena.
- Check all tack and fittings prior to each therapy session.
- Condition, clean and inspect all tack and equipment on a weekly basis. Report any repairs needed to the Barn Manager.
- Closely monitor horse behavior and immediately communicate any concerns to the Barn Manager.
- Feed horses lunch/dinner as needed.
- Maintain a clean, orderly and organized stall/barn/arena work area at all times.
- Participate in demonstrations and fundraising events as needed throughout the year.
- Help with the daily conditioning/warm up of all horses at the direction of the Barn Manager.
- Maintain current CPR and First Aid status.
- Other duties as needed.
Physical requirements of the position:
- Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds from the ground to waist height frequently during a normal workday (hay, grain, feed, tack boxes, saddles, feed buckets etc.).
- Must be able to walk and stand for the duration of work schedule – bringing horses to/from their stalls over a 12 acre “farm/ranch” facility; tacking and untacking regularly.
- Must possess the agility and dexterity to rapidly move toward or away from full sized horses to protect the safety of the disabled rider and/or sidewalkers / horse handlers / therapists.
Pay Range:
$19-$22 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
