PATH-Certified Adaptive Riding Instructor
Summary:
NCEFT is looking for a skilled and enthusiastic part-time Adaptive Riding Instructor who can help a variety of clients achieve their goals, perfect their riding skills, and improve their confidence!
Basic responsibilities include instruction to a diverse population for both individual and group lessons and assessment and development of education plan for new riders. This part-time position includes some weekends and early evenings. Reports to the Program Director.
Job Description:
- In coordination with Therapy Staff, assess potential clients for the Adaptive Riding program.
- Develop goals and measurements for tracking client progress.
- Keep accurate and timely notes on all Adaptive Riding clients.
- Deliver Adaptive Riding sessions with clients as assigned.
- Keep PATH certification current.
- Where possible, develop and offer group lessons.
- Manage horse usage in coordination with the Barn Manager and Program Director.
- Educate side walker volunteers or staff as needed regarding any advanced or specialized knowledge or skills required for specific programs or riders.
- In coordination with barn staff, manage the overall safety of all participants during Adaptive Riding sessions (rider, volunteers).
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly, respectfully, and collaboratively with staff regarding the usage of horses, facilities, and volunteers.
- Represent the mission and goals of NCEFT to the public.
- Participate in NCEFT’s fundraisers and events.
- Other duties as needed.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience as a PATH-certified riding instructor.
- Current PATH ARI certification.
- Experience with a wide range of rider needs and ages, including oversight of group lessons.
- Current CPR certification.
- Team-player with good communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently lift up to 35 pounds from the ground to waist height to assist clients and lift occasional items, such as saddles, ground poles, feed buckets, etc.
- Able to walk and stand on uneven surfaces for up to 7 hours per day (perform tacking or leading horse for session if part of lesson plan, R&R horses to and from their stalls through a 12-acre farm/ranch facility.
- Possess the agility and dexterity to rapidly move toward or away from full sized horses to protect the safety of the rider, side walkers.
- Able to jog, without stopping, approximately 150 yards on an uneven surface, while leading a horse or side walking.
Pay Range:
$24-$30 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
