Healing with the Herd

Healing with the Herd

Healing with the Herd

A 10-Week Resilience Workshop for those with living with cancer or other chronic illnesses.

Applications accepted on an ongoing basis.
Please fill out the application below and we will be in touch with you soon with more information.

This Workshop is for those who have experienced the trauma of a cancer diagnosis or other chronic illnesses. With a small group of peers, participants will engage in various therapeutic activities along with licensed mental health professionals, an equine specialist, a peer mentor and horses from our very special herd. Our horses and staff will help you find your inner calm and presence as you navigate this phase of your life.

NCEFT provides a safe place where clients can talk to mental health professionals and each other about the impact their disease or illness has had on their lives while having new, meaningful experiences. Come activate your senses as you feel the sun on your face, inhale the sweet smell of horses and take in the expansive views of Silicon Valley at our 12-acre ranch in Woodside, CA. This will be a literal breath of fresh air after countless medical appointments and hospital visits.

Participants will learn tools to help cope with their diagnosis, and gain a positive sense of self through:

  • Mindfulness exercises with horses
  • Bonding and caring for horses
  • Group Discussion
  • Guided meditation
  • Participating in barn life
  • Journaling
  • Community building

Program Details:

  • Groups will be limited to 6 participants.
  • A member of NCEFT’s Mental Health and Resilience team will schedule an initial evaluation with each applicant to determine eligibility.
  • Financial assistance is available for those who qualify.
  • Mental Health and Resilience Workshops at NCEFT are not intended to be a stand-alone treatment for mental health disorders, but instead, are provided as an addition to traditional talk therapy.

NCEFT: HORSES. HOPE. HEALING.

Horses. Hope. Healing. Three simple words that when combined have the power to transform lives. NCEFT is centered around helping people. We are about compassion, inclusiveness, and offering the highest level of service to those in need. We do this by harnessing the unique connection between horses and humans. NCEFT is also about community. Many of our clients and families describe NCEFT as a place that feels like home with people who feel like family.
